We are pleased to announce the publication of Translation Studies between Disciplines and Practices, a new edited volume by CETRA board member Luc van Doorslaer and emeritus CETRA staff member Yves Gambier (University of Turku), published by John Benjamins.
Bringing together 20 chapters, the volume pairs Translation Studies scholars with colleagues from other disciplines to explore what happens when different disciplinary perspectives meet around the concept and practice of translation.
The starting point of the book is the increasingly fluid and expansive role played by “translation” in contemporary multimodal societies. No longer confined to clearly delineated linguistic or disciplinary contexts, translation permeates a wide range of domains, from media and science to cultural, social and technological practices. The contributors examine these developments from their respective disciplinary perspectives, asking how changing understandings of translation can foster new forms of exchange between Translation Studies and other areas of research and practice.
In doing so, the volume also invites a broader reflection on the disciplinary boundaries of Translation Studies itself: how those boundaries have evolved, how they are increasingly being blurred, and what an open and outward-looking understanding of the field might mean for its future.
