_MG_8881lectures French Linguistics, Terminology, Legal Translation, and Translation Technology at KU Leuven, Faculty of Arts, in Antwerp. He is a Research Associate at the University of The Free State, Republic of South-Africa.

In 2018, Hendrik J. Kockaert went partially on leave to become Full Professor and Director of the Translation and Interpreting Studies Department at Hamad Bin Khalifa University – Qatar Foundation. His research areas are Terminology, Legal Translation and Translation Quality.

As a certified ECQA (European Certification and Qualification Association) trainer and Job Role Committee Provider, he develops online courses in terminology (Certified Terminology Management). He is also a course developer and a training consultant for the Pan African Masters in Conference Interpretation and Translation (PAMCIT) consortium.

He is a certified LICS Auditor for granting ISO 17100 certification to translation services, and he is the Founding Editor of The Journal of Internationalisation and Localisation [JIAL], published by John Benjamins Publishing Company.

He is the Chairperson of ISO TC 37 SC 1 and a member of NBN, the Belgian Standardization Institute. He is an expert in the development of ISO terminology standards. He was the coordinator of the following projects financed by the European Commission: QUALETRA (JUST/2011/JPEN/AG/2975), and LIT Search (JUST/2013/JPEN/AG/4556).

Together with Prof. Dr Winibert Segers and Televic, he developed translationQ, a CAT tool that delivers an automated evaluation and revision process.
